Saying Good bye to honourary Director – Joe Nusca

Hamilton District Society for Disabled Children and the Board of Directors are truly grateful for Joe Nusca’s 38 years of dedicated service and support for “our kids”.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph Nusca, on Monday, October 30, 2017, in his 95th year. Beloved husband of Gloria (Willis) A devoted father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, Joseph was loved and cherished by his children, Joey (deceased), Gary (Yvonne), Diana Bordonaro, Cameron Stewart (Lisa), his grandchildren Laurie and Lisa (Ariel), Chace (Kate), Melisa, Lauren (Nunzio) Parente, Christopher, Jarrett, Carissa, and great grandchildren Gabriele, Emily, Alison, Olivia, Angelo, Christian, Sabastian, and Avani. Much loved brother-in-law of Beverly Nusca, Tony Celi, and Jim Willis. Predeceased by his loving parents Paul and Maria, and loving family members Joey (son), Lino Jr., Anthony (Mary), Cecilia Squigna (Emilio) and their son Fernando, Edo (Nina), Nino (Vilma), Lino Sr., Clara Celi, Edwina Willis, great-granddaughter Emily Lisa and son-in-law Tom Bordonaro Q.C. Joseph is very sadly missed by his family members, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. He is loved and cherished by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Joseph enjoyed an active fulfilling life as President of St. Clair Management Inc. and founder of Arctic Refrigeration & Food Equipment which he successfully operated since 1945. He enjoyed serving many commercial, industrial, institutional, and marine galley clients, including foreign countries, with pride and commitment. Joseph orchestrated the growth of Arctic’s commercial, industrial trade shows and exhibitions rental business into one of the largest in Canada. During his lifetime, Joseph generously offered his support and assistance in helping others become established in their own business in Ontario. He was a hardworking compassionate man, who kindheartedly offered his help to those who were in need. He was caring to people around him who were less fortunate and needing help, including supporting many charities. Joseph leaves behind a strong legacy of family love and unity and a passion for an active life. Joe’s greatest pride and joy came from watching his family grow and sharing in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His love of family, zest for life, unfailing sense of humour, and his positive attitude will always be remembered. Joe had a passion for reading the latest medical research as well as refrigeration technology.

Among some of Joseph’s many dedicated accomplishments up until his passing; 4 time past president and a life charter member for over 45 years of the Sertoma Club Inc. of Hamilton (Service to Mankind) and International. He was awarded a Gold Coat from Sertoma Head Office in Kansas City, Missouri, USA for his charitable leadership as President. Member for 38 years and Honorary Secretary of the Hamilton and District Society for Disabled Children at Chedoke McMaster Hospital and many charitable organizations supporting special children. Served as past Co-Chair on the fund raising committee for St. Joseph’s Hospital. 15 year member of Special Education Advisory Committee for the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic District School Board representing the Hamilton District Society for Disabled Children. Past President of the Hamilton Advertising and Sales Club and Executive Director of the Canadian National Advertising and Sales Association. Past Board Member of the Beasley Neighbourhood District Committee. Over 35 years active member of the Canadian Club of Hamilton and as President the club was awarded the most improved club at the annual convention of the Federation of Canadian Clubs in British Columbia. Past Chairman of the Board of the “Original 25 Investment Group Inc.” Past Vice Chairman of the Municipal and Federal Affairs Committee for the Chamber of Commerce. Past President of the Provincial Hamilton Centre Liberal Party. Past Member of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and represented the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce CHCH Full Circle TV political Series. Chartered member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. Past Membership Chairman of the Assoc. of Refrigeration Contractors of Ontario (Ontario and Central Chapter). Past appointed member in the mid 1960’s of the Special Advisory Board for the Provincial Government, Dept. of Labour and Education, for developing school curriculum for refrigeration technicians and creating a certification as a trade for the refrigeration industry. Lifetime Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air- Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) non profit Educational Association of the Refrigeration Engineers Society. Past member of the Hamilton Jaycees. Received an Honour Award for his support to the Hamilton Wentworth Regional Police Association for over 25 years. Proud supporter of City Kidz. Supported International Children’s Games – Millennium Festival at McMaster University – July 1 – 7, 2000. Sponsored many minor hockey league teams in Hamilton. A devoted Catholic and a long time parishioner of the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King Church in Hamilton. Dedicated member of the Canadian Sons of Italy, Venetian Club of Hamilton, Knights of Columbus (Cathedral) and Art Gallery of Hamilton.
