Warm Up to Winter with Sensory Activities for Kids: Exciting Programs at the Westmount Recreation Centre
Winter is the perfect time to explore sensory-rich activities that can engage and delight children. Following our last blog on sensory activities to warm up the winter, we’re thrilled to share some fantastic programs offered by the Westmount Recreation Centre that you won’t want to miss.
1. Sensory Social Programs
The Sensory Social program is a wonderful, inclusive drop-in session designed for children and youth aged 3-21 with additional needs or disabilities. This 1.5-hour program offers a safe and supportive environment for participants to explore, play, and connect. Here’s what you can expect:
- Snoezelen Nook Experience: Spend 10-15 minutes in a calming, interactive space filled with light, sound, and tactile experiences.
- Fun Games & Activities: Engaging games and activities tailored for each participant’s needs, led by enthusiastic staff.
- Support Person Required: Participants bring their own support person or family member for a comfortable experience.
Program Details:
- Duration: 1.5 hours
- Group Size: 5 participants, each with their own support person
- Time in Snoezelen Nook: 10-15 minutes per person
- Location: Westmount Recreation Centre
2. Snoezelen Nook Programming
This one-hour program is designed for individuals with disabilities or additional support needs, providing a multi-sensory environment that promotes relaxation and engagement. Participants can enjoy:
- Light: Calming lighting and interactive visuals.
- Touch: Textures and equipment that encourage tactile exploration.
- Sound: Soft, ambient sounds and music for enhanced relaxation.
